Review: Papafilipou Ice Cream at Luna Park

by Traveling Seouls

We’ve driven by Papafilipou in Engomi many times in Cyprus. Prof has seen the place packed with families and kids as late as 9 pm and on, and friends say that it is a hopping place for families. As the weather is getting hotter in Cyprus, we thought it would be a good time as any to check this place out.

We had tasted Papafilipou ice cream last fall at the free ice cream socialright outside of the old city. Perhaps because it was free that we liked their ice cream, but we were disappointed in Papafilipou’s brand of ice cream the second time around. Chocolate was a no brainer for Piano Man, which is a tried and true classic. The strawberry ice cream we ordered turned out to be more like a sorbet, and hazelnut ice cream was another loss as it had no flavor and soggy nuts mixed in.

It didn’t matter though. The kids were to excited to see games and rides like kids in a candy store. We indulged in their desire to ride go-cart and a couple of games. Papafilipou at Luna Park had a few free spots, such as the playgrounds for tots and older kids.

(Photo Top Left: Rides for the kiddos. Photo Top Right: Go-cart racing for adults and a separate go-cart racing arena specifically for little ones. Photo Bottom Left: Billiard pool and other games for the older kids/teenagers. Photo Bottom Right: Candy game – all in Japanese of course – you know for all those Japanese tourists who come to visit.)

(Photos Above: Piano Man liked Sonic racing. Linus liked the idea of riding a “Thomas the Tank” engine-look-a-like train…until he got on the ride, although that’s not pictured here.)

But it wasn’t the ice cream, games, and rides that made our evening, it was Linus enjoying his ride in the car. He is always looking for a bus, and those blue buses are a favorite of his.

While we much rather prefer the new frozen yogurt places around town over Papafilipou, you should still go to Luna Park for the socialization and fun. We can see why the place is always hopping.
