We noticed there was a free event in the old city called Scoop of Nicosia, so we decided to go right after the birthday party. Papafiliou Ice Cream hosted this free event on September 29, 2012.
We were able to find parking quickly and walk through Famagusta Gate.
It was quite lovely space to walk through.
Once we passed through the gate, you could hear loud techno/hip-hop music and a large crowd of people pushing through the space to get from ice cream stand to the next. If you waited patiently, you could probably eat all 10 or so ice cream stands during the evening.
There were plenty of entertainment around: a juggler on stilts, face painting for the kids, several cartoon characters that must be popular with the local crowd, and additional food stands to sample for a few euros.
We got free ice cream for the kids from one of the shortest lines.
The ice cream was delicious on a hot evening.
