Groups of friends wanted to take us out on our last weeks in Cyprus. We had been to more frugal Asian restaurant establishments like Wagamama, which turned out to be a more reasonable price range for Asian food in Cyprus. Akakiko was another restaurant establishment that we had heard about but never found the time, nor the energy to bring young children. The place always looked like it was a hopping’ place whenever we drove past it at night.
But if you have young children and want to eat some Asian food (aka Japanese food by European standards), then lunch time was the best option. The place was practically empty. In fact, it was empty whenever we arrive for lunch. (Since Cypriot meal times are later than American meal times, brunch or 12 noon lunch is an excellent time to dine.)
We enjoyed some light green tea, which was nice treat.
Our little ones enjoyed miso soup, which we haven’t had much in Cyprus. (It’s not easy to get miso in Cyprus.)
The highlights of Akakiko had to be the bento boxes and cali rolls.
A side order edamame was another special treat – another item you don’t see often in Cyprus.
Although by American standards, it’s a pricier restaurant, I cannot imagine it being all that day to import these foods to Cyprus, which makes it a worthwhile place to dine Japanese food. Just be sure to dine at lunch time if you have young children with you. Makes for a much more enjoyable dining experience.
