I’m really enjoying the freebies of living in Illinois. I signed up to receive the latest news from the Art Institute of Chicago. As a result, they send notices of free days for Illinois residents. We took advantage of visiting during the pandemic, and it was the emptiest space I had ever seen. (And we’ve been to a lot of museums!)
TRAVEL TIP: If you come to Chicago on Mondays between now and fall, you can get 10 free parking days. Check out Millennium Garages. But it’s only for 2021.
Obama Portraits
When the Obama portraits were coming to town, I wanted to go. I missed my chance at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. Instead, I took a long stroll through Sally Mann’s A Thousand Crossings exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in 2018.
On a Monday afternoon, there was no line to wait. We walked right in. You can how the two artists, Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, made the work, the history of the Obamas in Chicago, and then the grand viewing of the Obama portraits at the end of the exhibit.
Bisa Butler’s Quilt Exhibit
A fellow artist/photographer shared about Bisa Butler’s work since I have been working on making Korean quilts. Let me tell you that if you don’t know Bisa Butler and you love quilt making, this is your jam. Go see the exhibit. Check out her work! It’s gorgeous!
Mimi Cherono – Photo Exhibit
Whenever I see the word photo, I am immediately drawn inside.
Thanks for the View
Prof took the boys to see the Ancient exhibit again, and I think the kids just enjoyed the Obama portraits. If I have a chance to see the Obama portraits at the National Portrait Gallery, I wonder what it’s like to see the Obama portraits next to the more traditional portraits of past presidents.
